Lyla was only six years old when she first picked up a guitar. After Lyla spent over an hour mindlessly strumming the guitar, her mom realized that maybe, just maybe, she liked music. Growing up, Lyla drowned herself in music. When Lyla was in the fifth grade, she finally taught herself how to play the guitar. Ever since then, Lyla has been writing and making her own music. Lyla has also taught herself how to play several other instruments, such as the piano, the violin, and the clarinet. She was even a brief member of her middle school’s band.

Lyla lives in an apartment with the only real friend she’s ever had, her mom. Lyla made a few friends in school, but never got too close to anyone. As mentioned before, she was briefly in her middle school’s band, but her reclusive nature made making new friends a challenge. Her mom has pushed her to start sharing her music, or at least playing her guitar some place other than her bedroom. Lyla always hesitated, though, being too shy to perform by herself in front of large crowds.

Lyla’s mom was the one who suggested signing up for Total Drama, originally as a joke, never thinking her daughter would actually do it. Lyla sent in her audition tape hoping that being on reality tv would help boost her confidence. She was also hoping the new experience would spark her creativity and pull her from the songwriter’s block she was stuck in. When Lyla got her acceptance letter, she nearly considered dropping out, but her mom pushed her to at least get out of their tiny apartment for the summer and have some fun.
